On 6 August 2012, the Mars Science Laboratory will land on Mars. The most important part of this mission, rover "Curiosity" is. The little Mars vehicles in the past was always dera amer very successful. Opportunity rover chugs in eight years on the Martian surface, and still no end in sight. But actually, "small Mars craft" an inappropriate description of Curiosity. This thing is pretty great!
This little thing left is Sojourner (specifically a model of the rover). Who began its journey on Mars in 1997. Sojourner provided great pictures and important new data. He worked only from July to the end of September 1997.
In 2004, landed sister probes Spirit and Opportunity on Mars. A model of two identical Rover you see in the picture above left. Spirit has until March 22, 2010 7.7 km on the surface of Mars is covered. The rover was designed to be operated over a mile! Even more expectations were exceeded by Opportunity. The rover is still running, and has so far 34.5 km on the odometer!
The requirements for the new Curiosity rover is so high! A model of Rover can be seen in the picture above right. Curiosity weighs 900 kg, is three meters dera amer long and two meters high. With its robotic arm, he can dredge drilling, and perform a series of chemical tests. His panoramic camera will deliver great images - if the rover probably because of Mars arrives. And it's not so easy ...
Mars' atmosphere is too thin, the brake properly. Sojourner and rovers Spirit and Opportunity were then surrounded by a group of air bags, as they affect the soil, in spite of the high speed without damage to the landing. But weighs only 185 kg. Curiosity is much heavier, and here you come up with a different and more complex system. Ascent stage with its own motors, which can flow over the surface of Mars, and will lower the rover slowly with the "Sky Crane" of cables on the floor (the right to ground the motor does not work due to this circulating dust detrimental rover ).
A landing on Mars is always complicated dera amer and long distance does not make things easier. It takes seven minutes before scientists know if everything is successful, or whether they have created a new crater on Mars ... This time they call "the seven minutes terrorist":
Let us hope that all goes well in August and continue Curiosity soon on Mars and its traces in the red dust leaving (tire marks left by the way, a pattern similar to Morse code letters "JPL" ...)
I find fascinating the calculations of the runway and the mathematical predictions such missions. Seating inside rather then chimpanzee-like. Who else would go on a trip to Mars? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xat1GVnl8-k

'Chug' when I think certainly not to any vehicles outside the ground, much less power thanks to early childhood imprinting something is always among the first images ...
The landing of Cury is really ho
