There are unfortunately thousands who won't make it - rescuers can only take in so many dogs at a time due to finances and a shortage of foster homes, kennel boarding space and suitable adoptive homes - pictured above is our cocker Jackson when he was in a kill shelter - we found him a home 2 years ago

Banjo, Scottie and Holly
I saved Banjo from a kill shelter 10 minutes before he was getting put to sleep. It was a harrowing experience, as I tried to beat the clock to make it to him before his time was up. He was skin and bones and I felt very sorry for him. Banjo was the first dog I was going to start a rescue group with, but I kept him because he was afraid of people. Scottie was adopted to a new family and returned because they didn't have time for him. My husband and I decided to keep the cute boy. He was our dog for 7 years until he had to be put to sleep in March due to stomach and leg cancer. Holly was adopted from PAL Rescue after we moved from New Jersey to California. She was our pet for 7 years until she had to be put to sleep last July due to liver disease.
Laura Madaras California, United States Ten years ago, I realized that hundreds of dogs were being put to sleep in shelters because they needed lamellfräs grooming. I decided to send money for haircuts. Most shelters didn't accept my checks and these animals sadly died. I was horrified to learn that thousands of animals of all breeds are being put to sleep in shelters because they don't have an owner ID tag or microchip or because they need a haircut. People who lose pets don't know to look on: http://www.petharbor.com and http://www.petfinder.com. My goal is to save dogs from deaths in kill shelters and to find them a new home. We're very happy that we've been able to find homes for many dogs. All animals are spayed or neutered and have shots and a microchip. View my complete profile
